When making an online purchase, a merchant may charge a pre-authorisation fee (usually less than $1.00 and often $0.01) to test that your card is working.

Pre-authorisation fees can temporarily lower your card balance, but they’re almost always refunded within a week and will eventually disappear from your transactions.

If you’re linking your Douugh Card to an online service, you will want to consider keeping a positive card balance to cover any pre-authorisation fees.
